OVERVIEW
Composite bonding is a great way to improve the appearance of your teeth quickly and easily.
It involves the addition of a white filling material (composite) to the surface of the tooth, in order to improve its shape, colour and overall appearance. It is a great way to achieve an almost instant smile makeover with little to no drilling of your own tooth.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT
During your consultation, your dentist will assess your suitability for this treatment, and talk you through any questions you may have.
The tooth surface is slightly roughened with a liquid, and composite is carefully applied to the tooth surface, and shaped. It is then polished to look natural and highly cosmetic.
Overtime, it can stain so we recommend regular visits to they hygienist who may carry out an airflow treatment and polish the bonding for you.
QUESTIONS ABOUT
The white filling material used is almost as strong as your on a natural tooth, however, it is essential you remember that this does not mean it will last forever
Dental bonding can require maintenance and on average last anything from 3-7 years, depending on how when it is looked after
We recommend most of our patients come and see us at least once a year for the dental composite bonding to be polished.
We advise that you avoid biting directly into hard foods like apples, hard crusty bread as this can chip/ weaken your dental bonding.
It will normally take 1 visit to complete the composite bonding and most patients will have a review appointment after a few weeks to make sure they are completely happy.
The majority of our dental bonding cases are carried out without any anaesthetic, however it varies from person to person.
We would always recommend straightening before the bonding as it helps. Slight minor misalignment can be masked with composite. However, it is always advisable to straighten with braces or Invisalign first.
The tooth surface is cleaned, all plaque removed and then prepared with a gel that roughens the tooth surface. The composite is then applied using special instruments to sculpt it to the desired shape. Using a special blue light, the material is then hardened. Further layers can then be added accordingly. The procedure is then completed with smoothing of the tooth surface and polishing.
Our Dental Bonding starts from £200 per tooth.
