OVERVIEW
Missing teeth can cause issues with speaking and eating and if the gap is visible when smiling or laughing, it can also greatly affect one’s confidence.
Here at Windsor Dental in Leicester, Dr Ravi uses the latest technology, combined with expert clinical skills to provide a fixed replacement for missing teeth using dental implants.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT
During your initial consulation, Dr Ravi will discuss with you at length exactly what you are looking for and what your concerns are. He will conduct a thorough examination including taking x-rays and will explain the options to you. A patient will often require a CT scan (computed tomography) which will reveal further important information regarding bone levels and surrounding structures. If this is required, a referral will be made for you. Impressions of your teeth may be taken at this stage.
You’ll then be invited back for a second consultation. Following a complete review of all diagnostic data, a treatment plan will be devised. This along with all costs will be explained, including the option of a payment plan. Once you are happy with this, the treatment will be started.
Implant placement: a small surgery will be carried out, under completely sterile conditions, where the implant(s) will be placed. This is carried out under local anaesthetic so is pain free, aside from some pressure, but sedation options are also available to put the patient at ease.
Review: this appointment will take place approximately 2 weeks after the implant(s) is placed, where Dr Ravi will check the area, remove any necessary stitches and confirm healing is taking place successfully.
The implant(s) is allowed to heal and integrate with the bone for 8-10 weeks.
Final restoration: following healing, the final restoration (crown/bridge/denture) will be placed over a few appointments.
QUESTIONS ABOUT
Once you have lost a tooth, you will begin to lose bone and surrounding gum tissue from where the tooth once was. This can cause the lips, cheeks and jawbone to collapse inwards giving your face a sunken appearance.
The surrounding teeth also have a tendency to move into the space of the missing tooth, causing spaces between other teeth and more areas in which food can become trapped
The sooner this is treated the less bone you are likely to lose and the less likely your teeth are to move.
These are titanium screws that are fixed into the jaw, and a dental crown is fixed on top of the implant to provide a natural-looking tooth replacement.
The entire procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, the area is numb and no pain should be felt during the procedure. Post operatively it is normal to feel some discomfort, however, this can normally be dealt with via over the counter medication.
As dentistry has evolved, so has our ability to place implants in patients who lack bone. We do this by carrying out bone grafting procedures. Bone grafting procedures have enabled our patients who lack bone to now have implants placed.
While your implant heals you will be provided with either a temporary denture or a bridge that stick onto the back of the adjacent teeth.
You should treat your dental implant how you would treat your normal teeth. Keep them clean, brush2x a day and clean interdentally, using either floss, interdental brushes or a Waterpik. It is important that you see the dental hygienist every 6 months for your teeth to be cleaned and your dentist every 6-12 months for a check-up.
At Windsor Dental Leicester we charge £2500 for our dental implants. This will include all appointments and no hidden charges.
