OVERVIEW
We at Windsor Dental in Leicester understand that breaking a tooth can be a distressing experience, however, we are always at hand to help.
We offer a wide range of treatments to repair your tooth/teeth depending on the extent of the break. If the break is small we may be able to repair it with a simple filling or composite bonding, however, when the damage to the tooth is too extensive the tooth may require a crown.
A crown is a little helmet/cap that is cemented over a tooth to protect it from breaking. Once cemented in, it not only replaces the fractured portion of the tooth, but also holds the tooth together and allows it to once again work properly as a single unit.

Stage 3 - Follow UpStage 1 - ConsultationYour dentist will need to carry out a full examination of your teeth and take X-rays if necessary.Ā
Stage 2 - TreatmentYour tooth is then prepared for a crown. This involves us reducing the size of the tooth ever so slightly in size. Once the tooth is prepared for the crown we will taken some moulds of your teeth, or a scan and send this to a dental lab to a highly skill dental technician. A temporary crown will be placed on your tooth for approximately 1-2 weeks. The Temporary crown is then removed and the final permanent crown is cemented in with dental cement.
Stage 3 - Follow UpSometimes crowns require some adjustment after they are fitted. We ask all our patients to contact us if they feel it is not settled after a couple of weeks and we will make an appointment to assess this.
QUESTIONS ABOUT
As long as your crown is looked after it should last 10-15 years.
The length of time that a crown will last will vary from person to person, however, if you floss, brush 2x a day and minimise sugary snacks/drinks your crown could last a lifetime
Regular check-ups at Windsor Dental Leicester will enable your dentist to detect any problems with your crown and recommend necessary treatment.
